Overcoming the Challenges of Passive On-Wafer Load Pull Measurements at Millimeter Wave Frequencies for 5G Applications

AUTHORS: Maury Microwave and FormFactor

PUBLICATION HISTORY: EverythingRF – February 2024

ABSTRACT: Millimeter waves offer high data speeds, low latency, and increased capacity, enhancing user experiences in activities such as gaming and video conferencing. Despite benefits, challenges exist, including shorter range and signal blockage. The key to unlocking 5G’s potential lies in optimizing infrastructure components, particularly the power amplifier (PA). PA engineers use Load Pull, a crucial tool, to balance power, efficiency, linearity, and size during design. This solutions brochure narrows its focus to passive on-wafer load pull measurements at 5G frequencies, specifically 28 GHz and 39 GHz, addressing the intricacies of achieving optimal PA performance.
