Calibrated Adapters for Cryogenic and Thermal Noise Terminations

Description

You can increase the utility of the Maury MT7118J cryogenic termination by using adapters to connect the precision 7mm output port to other coaxial and waveguide connectors. However, as in any other microwave measurement system, adding adapters degrades the accuracy of the data that can be obtained. In the case of waveguide measurements, stability and repeatability will also be degraded by the use of adapters. Therefore, for optimum performance, it is always recommended that a cryogenic termination with the appropriate output port connector be used for specific measurement applications.

In situations where this is not possible, and an adapter must be used, it is critical that the adapter is calibrated, so that its specifications are known and can be calculated into the measurement. Although adapters can be calibrated separately, better accuracy is achieved and operation of the termination is simpler when they are purchased and calibrated with the cryogenic termination.

Maury offers a wide range of adapters calibrated at specific frequencies for use with the MT7118J cryogenic termination. Adapters to other coaxial series are provided as female and male sets where applicable. The table below shows the adapters or adapter sets available from Maury. All are calibrated for VSWR and insertion loss so that their input noise temperature can be calculated. They are shipped with a Test Report and Operating Note. It is strongly recommended that they be purchased at the same time as the cryogenic termination, but they are also sold separately. When sold with the cryogenic termination, VSWR calibration of the adapter(s) assembled to the output port connector is available at an additional charge (quoted on request).
