IEEE Region 6 Award for 2014 Corporate Support

On June 26th 2014, the IEEE Region 6 Southern Area Award for Outstanding Corporate Service to the Engineering Community for 2014 was presented to Maury Microwave. The award was presented at the Maury Microwave facility in Ontario, CA to Greg Maury, CEO, and members of his senior engineering and management staff. The IEEE Foothill Section presenters were Max Cherubin, IEEE Foothill Section MTT/ APS Chapter Chair, and Frank G Freyne, IEEE Foothill Section Chair.

This IEEE Award acknowledged the continuing efforts by Maury Microwave “… in providing hands-on exposure to microwave calibration theory and techniques thereby enhancing the RF and Microwave knowledge base in the IEEE Foothill Section and greater Los Angeles area. ” The IEEE especially acknowledged the technical presentations and numerous student group tours conducted at the Maury Microwave facility over the past two years. These tours have attracted upper-division IEEE students from a number of our local colleges and universities; including Cal Poly Pomona, University of California Riverside, Harvey Mudd College, California Baptist University of Riverside, Devry Pomona and Mt San Antonio College. The contributions of the senior engineering staff and support team at Maury Microwave, including Rusty Myers and Sathya Padmanabhan,were explicitly noted during the award presentation.

High Speed Tuning

In today's volatile market, it is more important than ever to be first to market and win those prized contracts. To achieve this goal, the device characterization phase must be faster than ever: requiring faster tuners, faster tuner characterization (calibration) and faster measurement systems.

To address these needs, Maury has introduced high-speed LXI-certified automated impedance tuners, high-speed swept adaptive tuner characterization (calibration) algorithms, and high-speed load pull solutions.

MT1000 Product Launch


June 6 2014

Following the success of the MT2000 Mixed-Signal Active Load Pull system, Maury has launched a new entry-level MT1000 system.

Like the MT2000, the MT1000 mixed-signal fully active load pull system is capable of presenting impedances below 0.05 Ω (Γ=1, VSWR>999:1)and measuring up to 1000 impedance/power states per minute, with the possibility of NVNA time-domain data. Fundamental and harmonic load pull models are available up to 6, 18, 26.5 and 40 GHz.

MT7553-series Noise Receiver and Noise Switching Modules


June 5 2014

Maury Microwave is pleased to announce the update of its MT7553-series of Noise Receivers with the addition of the MT7553B03 Noise Receiver Module and MT7553N26 and N50 Noise Switching Modules.

The MT7553B03 is the latest in Noise Receiver Modules to improve the noise measurement accuracy of the N5245A-series PNA-X with 029 noise option. The MT7553B03 can improve the noise figure of the PNA-X receiver by over 6dB.

The MT7553N26 and N50 Noise Switching Modules replace barebone components with an integrated assembly which acts as s-parameter/noise parameter switch, as well as provides bias to the device under test.

12 GHZ BNC cal kit


June 4 2014

Maury Microwave is pleased to announce the launch of its 12 GHz 75ohm BNC cal kit.

The Maury 8580B series of calibration kits provides a convenient, accurate means of calibrating vector (VNA) network analyzers for measurements of devices with BNC connectors at 75 ohms reference impedance. These kits are provided with fixed terminations and are generally used at frequencies up to 12 GHz.

AT-series Attenuator Product Launch


June 1 2014

Maury Microwave is please to announce the launch of its AT-series Attenuator Product Line.

Maury Microwave’s AT-series of fixed coaxial attenuators are used to reduce the power of a RF, MW or mmW signal without distorting its signal quality/waveform. Attenuators are often used to lower the amplitude of a signal to a measurable level or to protect a measurement instrument from damage. Attenuators are also used to improve matching between components by improving the return loss (twice insertion loss) and effectively reducing the VSWR seen by adjacent components. Key attenuator parameters include attenuation, frequency bandwidth, power handling, VSWR and quality/repeatability of connector.

Maury AT-series attenuators are part of the ColorConnect™ family. Following the proposed IEEE high-frequency connector/adapter color convention, AT-series attenuators are the first commercially available attenuators to offer clear indications of compatibility and intermatability. ColorConnect™ makes it a simple matter to avoid and eliminate damaged equipment, degraded equipment reliability, degraded performance and lengthy maintenance times due to improper mating (and attempted mating) of incompatible interconnects.

Marc Schulze Tenberge Joins Maury

Maury Microwave Corporation is pleased to announce the recent hiring of Marc Schulze Tenberge as our Applications Engineering Manager based in Ontario, California. Marc holds Masters Degrees in Engineering from the University of Portsmouth and in Sciences from North Carolina State University.

Marc comes to Maury after nine years with RFMD in Greensboro, NC as a Test/Characterization Engineer having worked on IV, CV, PIV, transient, Load Pull, linearity, RF and microwave small signal, noise, KGD, AM-PM and ruggedness measurements. Marc was a key contributor to the development of new GaN HFET and GaAs HBT and FET process technologies.

In his role, Marc will lead Maury’s global team of dedicated application engineers with offices in US, Canada, Europe and China.

Power Semiconductor Pulsed IV to 1000V for GaN, SiC

Maury Microwave announces the release of its new AMBILT3 Pulsed IV System for high voltage power semiconductor applications, including the AM241 100V/30A pulse head.

Maury Microwave, acting as AMCAD Engineering's exclusive worldwide distributor, has expanded its industry-proven pulsed IV system (Pulsed IV, PIV, parametric analysis) for high-voltage power conversion applications. The system is ideally suited for GaN, SiC, MOSFET and IGBT technologies used in automotive (hybrid cars), alternative energy, industrial computers... applications. Systems come fully equipped with a common 19" rack mountable mainframe controller which includes five integrated power supplies, standard gate pulse head, and 1000V/30A drain pulse head. IMS 2013 Short Course: Demystifying Device Characterization


June 3 2013

One of only two short courses offered at IMS 2013, Demystifying Device Characterization concentrated on the Design Flow from component-level to circuit-level to system-level measurement and modeling.

The objective of the course was to introduce participants to advanced techniques such as compact model extraction from pulsed IV/RF measurements, load pull techniques for measurement and modeling validation, amplifier and IC design in ADS, stability analysis of ICs and finally X-Parameter and system-level modeling.

Maury expands Beijing office

Maury Microwave expands its regional headquarters in Beijing, China with the addition of Senior Applications Engineer Yang Dongliang.

Yang Dongliang is a graduate of the North China University of Technology (Bachelor of Engineering) and the Beijing Institute of Technology (Masters of Engineering). Before joining Maury, he worked as an RF engineer at Ericsson, responsible for the design and maintenance of power amplifiers. Yang Dongliang specialized in optimizing power amplifiers for output power, gain, efficiency and linearity using advanced measurement and modeling device characterization tools such as Load Pull and ADS.

We are pleased to announce that Maury Microwave Corp was awarded a Sweeping Victory in the recent patent case against Focus Microwaves.

We understand that you may have heard FALSE AND INACCURATE information regarding this patent case and regarding Maury’s future in the market place.

In the words of the court itself: “FINAL JUDGMENT AND PERMANENT INJUNCTION IN FAVOR OF MAURY AND AGAINST FOCUS IS HEREBY GRANTED”.

HERE ARE THE FACTS FROM THE COURT ITSELF:

Maury filed suit in May 2010 seeking Declaratory Relief from the courts against Focus Microwaves who alleged that Maury was infringing two Focus Patents relating to the Maury Multi-Harmonic Automated Tuners:
1. 6,674,293: Adaptable Pre-Matched Tuner System and Method
2. 7,034,629: High Frequency, High Reflection, Pre-matching tuners with Zero Initialization

In November 2010, Maury added to the suit that Focus had violated the Maury 7,548,069: ‘Signal Measurement Systems and Methods’ Patent; relating to the Maury V I Sensor Probe, technology.

On both Claim Construction and Summary Judgment issued by the United States District Court, Central District of California; Maury was awarded a COMPLETE VICTORY:
1. Focus ‘6,674,293 Patent, Finding: Maury has not infringed.
2. Focus ‘7,034,629 Patent, Findings:
a. Maury has not infringed.
b. Patent Found Invalid
3. Maury 7,548,069 Patent: Focus directly infringed.

Maury even won its court costs and was awarded penalties for Focus’ misconduct.

Following the proposed IEEE high-frequency connector/adapter color convention, Stability™ cable assemblies are the first commercially available assemblies to offer clear indications of compatibility and intermatability. ColorConnect™ makes it a simple matter to avoid and eliminate damaged equipment, degraded equipment reliability, degraded performance and lengthy maintenance times due to improper mating (and attempted mating) of incompatible interconnects.

Low-Profile and TVAC Stability™Cable Assemblies

Maury Microwave announces the expansion of its Stability™ family of amplitude- and phase-stable cable assemblies to include Low-Profile (-LP) and Thermal Vacuum (-TVAC) models.

Stability™ Low Profile Cable Assemblies have been designed for high-density applications such as switch matrices and PXI/PXIe/AXIe cards, as well as wafer-probe applications where traditional cable assemblies might cause interference due to cable and connector size. Stability™ Low Profile Cable Assemblies offer the same electrical performance in an assembly that is 44% smaller and 66% lighter, and are available with 3.5mm and 2.92mm connectors.

Stability™ TVAC Cable Assemblies have been designed for measurements in a thermal vacuum environment for space product testing. TVAC cable assemblies connect components or satellites located in thermal test chambers to systems and instruments outside. Stability™ TVAC Cable Assemblies offer the same electrical and mechanical performance with specialized vented 2.92mm connectors that meet low outgassing requirements of ESA-PSS-01-702 with a TML < 1% and CVCM < 0.1%.

50 GHz Noise Measurements With PNA-X Option 29

Maury Microwave announces the release of its new MT7553B02 Noise Receiver Module (NRM) designed specifically for the N5245-series PNA-X with Noise option 029.

MT7553B02 is a 50 GHz direct-frequency Noise Receiver Module. The term "direct-frequency" means that no downconversion process is required as the 029 noise analyzer option internal to the PNA-X works natively to 50 GHz.

MT7553B02 improves the second-stage noise figure of the PNA-X by 5-6 dB thereby increasing the sensitivity of the analyzer which can lead to more accurate noise parameter measurements.

On-Wafer Production Testing in Seconds!

Maury Microwave and Anteverta-mw announce an on-wafer production test application using the MT2000 mixed-signal active load pull system.

The MT2000 mixed-signal active load pull system is the only load pull system capable of tuning and measuring hundreds and thousands of impedance/power states per minute. This incredible speed enables CW and pulsed-CW production testing of multiple load impedance states over multiple power levels in only seconds per die. An intuitive API allows users to combine the power of the MT2000 with Cascade's Nucleus wafer-mapping software to fully automate production testing.

IVCAD Stability Analysis Tool

Maury Microwave announces the release of STAN - Stability Analysis Tool for IVCAD.

STAN is a revolutionary stability analysis technique for microwave circuits, valid for small-signal and large-signal operating conditions. This technique is able to detect and determine the nature of oscillations, such as parametric oscillations in power amplifiers that can be a function of the input drive signal, for example. Knowledge of the type of oscillation facilitates the addition of stabilization networks, with a better balance between the required oscillation avoidance and maintaining the original circuit performances.

New Application Note on Compact Transistor Models

Maury Microwave has released its latest application note regarding transistor modeling, written by partner AMCAD Engineering and featured in the March edition of the Microwave Journal.

Article "Compact Transistor Models: The Roadmap to First-Pass Amplifier Design Success" covers the compact transistor modeling extraction flow, including: s-parameters to determine the extrinsic and intrinsic elements, Pulsed IV measurements to extract the diode and current source model parameters under quasi-isothermal conditions, Pulsed S parameter measurements to extract the nonlinear capacitance models that are needed for simulations in large signal operating conditions, electro-thermal and trapping effects, and modeling validation through frequency-domain and time-domain load pull measurements.

Active Load Pull Surpasses 500W!

The MT2000 mixed-signal active load pull system breaks the 500W barrier with the successful characterization of a GEN8 NXP base station transistor

Maury Microwave, in conjunction with Anteverta-mw and NXP Semiconductors, has successfully characterized a NXP 8th generation LDMOS 320 W-rated base station transistor up to 500 W using the fully active MT2000 mixed-signal active load pull system (MSALP).

This base station transistor was measured at 2.14 GHz, in a pulsed-CW condition with pulse width of 50 µS, duty cycle of 10%, using a prematch transformer test fixture at 7 Ω. The power amplifier used to drive this DUT up to Pout=500 W and down to 1.5 Ω was a 500 W NXP Doherty amplifier demo board, an almost 1:1 relationship with the device output power. A maximum output power of 470 W and a maximum efficiency of 62 % were measured at 3 dB gain compression.

The MT2000 mixed-signal fully active load pull system represents the next evolution in device characterization systems, capable of presenting impedances below 0.05 Ω (Γ=1, VSWR>999:1), unique in its capability of measuring up to 1000 impedance/power states per minute, and unique in its capability of up to 120 MHz of instantaneous wideband impedance control for industry-compliant and proprietary wideband modulated signals.

AMCAD Releases New Pulser Heads for HBTs


October 18 2011

AMCAD Engineering has released a new pulser, also referred to as probe head, tailored for small-periphery transistor (HBTs & HEMT) pulsed IV measurements. This new pulser, AM223, has two embedded measurement units: one for currents lower than 20mA, one for currents between 20mA and 200mA.

Tony Gasseling, President of AMCAD Engineering, says "As the world leader in modular and turnkey modeling solutions including pulsed IV, pulsed S-Parameters, linear and nonlinear modeling software, we are constantly adapting our technology to meet the most challenging requirements of our customers. We are happy to release the AM223 probe head, which now allows for the most accurate characterization of HBTs to date."
